Invoked the Alien Enemies Act

Where it standsPartly blockedCourts blocked removals in many districts. In August 2026 the Fifth Circuit dismissed the main challenge as moot without ruling on whether the invocation was legal.

Used a 1798 wartime law to deport Venezuelans accused, often without evidence or a hearing, of gang membership. Many were flown to the CECOT prison in El Salvador.

How to roll it backRevoke the proclamation. Congress should repeal or narrow the Alien Enemies Act so it can't be used in peacetime.
