Liberation Day tariffs

Where it standsStopped by courtsThe Supreme Court ruled 6–3 on Feb 20, 2026 that the emergency tariffs were illegal (Learning Resources v. Trump). Court-ordered refunds of more than $100 billion are going to importers, mostly large companies; consumers who paid higher prices get nothing back. See "Replacement tariffs" for what came next.

Imposed sweeping "reciprocal" tariffs on nearly every country using emergency powers, following earlier IEEPA tariffs on Canada, Mexico and China. Challenged all the way to the Supreme Court.

How to roll it backRevoke the orders. Congress can reclaim its tariff power so emergency statutes can't be used this way.
