The Trump administration launched America.gov, an AI chatbot meant to be a single public gateway to federal information. The Associated Press reported that, within moments of the Sept. 29, 2026 launch, the chatbot went from giving accurate answers on politically sensitive questions, including that Biden won the 2020 election, that election officials found no widespread fraud, that Trump's name is in the Epstein files, and that climate change is "largely from human greenhouse gas emissions," to refusing to answer those same questions, saying it did not answer political inquiries. No official has said who made the change or why.
How to roll it backGSA and OMB, which run the site, can restore accurate answers and publish what the guardrails are. Congress can require federal AI tools to disclose their instructions and log when answers change.
