Tariffs on medicines, chips, and drones

Where it standsIn effect

Added national security tariffs in 2026: 25% on certain advanced computer chips (January), 100% on patented brand-name drugs, with lower rates for companies that strike deals (April), import limits on quartz countertops (July), up to 100% on drones and drone parts (August), and minimum import prices plus a 15% tariff on solar panels and their components (August, effective December 2026).

How to roll it backA president can lift or lower these tariffs by proclamation. Congress can limit the national security trade law so tariffs require its approval.
